Thankfulness- week 4

timer set. 2 minutes. here goes:

kleenex
coffee
books
cook books
Rhea and Mia dancing = )
fall colors
Joe
God's unfailing love for me
Simple Green cleaner
baby wipes
playing outside
juice boxes
flowers

kinda short today, but Mia is continually pushing the button to play 'Away in a Manger' from the book Uncle Matt gave to Rhea last year. The batteries are dying so you have to sing the song real slow. Made it a little hard to relax and think. (maybe I'll expand to 5 min in future weeks, I never feel like my lists even touch all the MANY things/people I am thankful for)

Dinner @ the Dixson's

Hello all! I missed a week of 'thankfulness' due to a vacation, that I am very thankful for : )

We went to Branson for a week for family vacation and had a great time. It was a relaxing, slow paced week. Lots of shopping occurred and we wanted to share a blog post about one of our treasures....

Bloomin' Onion Maker!!! (our favorite appetizer)

So... here you have it... Dixson dinner, step by step :

This is it: Bloomin' Onion Maker and picture guide : )

Rhea reading the instructions to Mommy

Helping mix up the seasonings..
all the pepper sure helped clear her sinuses,
she was sneezin like crazy

Our little potato helper, she loves to get them in a bucket and carry them around.

Careful selection of the egg to go in the milk for coating

Cutting the onion, a tearful event, as always.

Forgot to photograph the boiling and cooling of the onion,
but here we are trying to work the coating and batter on
(more difficult than we thought it should be)

in the fryer!

Golden brown, looks good!

fresh from the fryer

tool included to remove the 'core' from the bottom

She's a beauty! Ready with ranch to head out to the table!

A PERFECT night for supper outside. Wonderful temp and no breeze.

Joe's plate (round 1)

Here we go.... Mmm Mmm Mmm

Yummy!

Rhea had some too (she likes the ranch)

And my beloved dish-man in action!
Overall, it was pretty easy to make and tasted great! We decided it was a little too crispy this time so maybe a little less time in the grease next time around.
So.... who's comin' for steak night next week?!  ; )

Recycle for Rhea! (and any/all future sibilngs)

This will be a treat.... I am attempting to compose this blog post while playing Magna-Doodle at the same time. Rhea's latest favorite is having me draw on the Magna-Doodle and she erases it. Her frequent requests for me to draw are fish and a birdie (thanks Gramma, my birdie skills needs some help). I think she just likes running the little slider and watching the pictures disappear.

Anyways, the point of this post is to ask friends/family if you'd be safe a few items for us. I recently bought a 'busy book' for prechoolers and it is FULL of great ideas for activities/crafts/learning. The majority of the ideas can be done with simple household items (yay for the budget!)..... so I thought maybe we'd ask if anyone would like to help add to the "Dixson Education Station" stash (otherwise currently known as the China Hutch until I find a good space for our learning supplies). Here's a list of the items suggested, please DO NOT go out of your way for any of this but if you happen to think of us before you toss your milk jug, we'd appreciate the cap ; )

clean aluminum foil pieces, bottle caps, boxes (any size),
brown paper bags (any size), buttons, used candles/pieces,
catalogs with lots of pictures, chopsticks, clothespins, coffee cans & lids,
corks, eggs cartons, envelops (any size), fabric scraps, empty jars & lids,
felt, used greeting cards, milk jug lids, costume jewlery/clothes (for dress-up),
paint sample chips, paper towel/toilet paper tubes, pine cones (no sap please),
old playing cards, popsicle sticks, ribbon, sand paper, shoelaces,
stickers (any kind), string, styrofoam, thread spools, wood scraps (smallish),
wrapping paper scraps, yarn

Splish Splash, we love the pool!

Quite possibly one of the last times the girlies will get to swim with Grammy this year.....
The water was a little chilly but it was still a fun time!!!
As you can plainly see, Miss Rhea has NO fear of the water : )

Bestest cousins!

Downside to a water-proof camera... water droplets on the lense...

Alie helping keep Rhea warm, what a sweetie!!

Thankful

I've been reminded this week thru various media forms (blogs, newsletters, etc.) of the importance of being thankful and the many positive benefits we reap from having a thankful heart. Someone suggested taking 2 minutes each day and just write down things you are thankful for. I LOVE this idea. And in hopes of helping myself stay accountable to this joyful activity I want to share my list with you on either Fri or Sat of every week.

Setting the timer.... here goes.....

sunshine
rain
green grass
loving husband
wonderful neighbors
family
privileged to carry a second child
nap time
washing machine / dryer
God's unfathomable love for me

There it is. 2 minutes really isn't that long once you get going...
and my mind goes in a zillion directions : )

double rainbow over the canal last week :-)

Blessings.....
